Overview

The Markha Valley trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in the Ladakh region of northern India, starting from Leh. It takes you through stunning Himalayan landscapes, remote villages, and high mountain passes. Along the way, trekkers experience a mix of rugged desert terrain, lush green valleys, and Buddhist monasteries perched on cliffs. The trek also offers breathtaking views of peaks like Kang Yatse and Stok Kangri.

Day 01 :

Arrive in Delhi – Airport pickup → Hotel transfer → Group briefing & orientation.

Rest day; optional short city walk.

Day 02 :

Fly Delhi → Leh (3,500 m) – Morning flight across the Himalayas.

Acclimatisation afternoon; explore Leh Bazaar or Shanti Stupa.

Day 03 :

Leh Local Tour & Acclimatisation – Drive to Shey Palace, Thiksey Monastery, Hemis Gompa; return to Leh.

Light activity to adjust to altitude.

Day 04 :

Leh → Chilling (3,200 m) → Skiu (3,400 m) – Drive along the Indus River to Chilling; cross the Zanskar River; trek 3–4 hrs to Skiu.

First night of camping in the valley.

Day 05 :

Skiu → Sara → Chalak → Markha (3,700 m) – Gradual 6–7 hr trek following the Markha River through willow groves and mani walls.

Overnight in Markha village.

Day 06 :

Markha → Umlung → Hankar (4,000 m) – Cross bridges and small hamlets; pass Umlung Gompa and see Kang Yatse peak in the distance.

Camp near Hankar.

Day 07 :

Hankar → Thachungtse (4,200 m) – Climb past stone huts and yak pastures; cross small streams.

Short 4–5 hr trek for acclimatisation.

Day 08 :

Thachungtse → Nimaling (4,700 m) – Trek 5–6 hrs to reach the wide meadow of Nimaling beneath Kang Yatse.

Stunning high-altitude plateau campsite.

Day 09 :

Nimaling → Kongmaru La Pass (5,200 m) → Chuskirmo (4,000 m)

Steep ascent to the pass, then long descent through red and gold gorges.

Day 10 :

Chuskirmo → Shang Sumdo (3,800 m) → Drive to Leh – Final 3–4 hr walk to Shang Sumdo; drive 2 hrs back to Leh.

Day 11 :

Leh – Rest / Optional Excursions

Explore Leh Palace, lHot shower, hotel stay, celebration dinner.ocal markets, or rafting on Zanskar River.

Day 12 :

Fly Leh → Delhi – Morning flight; transfer to hotel.

Day 13 :

Delhi – Free Exploration

Optional guided tour of Old & New Delhi: India Gate, Qutub Minar, Jama Masjid.

Day 14 :

Depart Delhi – Transfer to airport; end of tour.
